Totally loving life

That's right!  I am in love with life right now. Getting my kids the therapies they need, and going out and doing stuff. My fat butt loves the couch, but loves going out more.
This picture was Friday at a museums snow night.

This was Thursday night at a special needs Christmas event. The kids had a blast!!

This picture was also Thursday. Maggie gathered card games for a local foster care agency.

We also went to a local mansions christmas night. We've done so much...including starting a new Girl Scout troop. So awesome. 2013 is ending on a good note. 2014 looks good.

Just Life

Really can't complain about home life. Things are going pretty good. It's amazing the kinds of things the kids come up with to do. Legos have been all over the gathering room as of late. We have found the baby duplo blocks at a thrift store. Tanni loves them. Hezzie tells her the colors. It's cute.
I find myself just being in awe of the kids. There are moments they still catch me off guard with their candor and enthusiasm. I am glad they still do. Don't get me wrong  it's not always so nice and quiet. Some days it's loud and messy. It's never full and there is always time for a nap.
I'm looking forward to a future with kids who stay awesome and are their own person.

Update

I have been sick in one way or another for nearly a month. I was stung by a bee on August 5th and had an deadly reaction to it, or whatever it had been eating. I then had a reaction to the steroids in the hospital and the ones they sent me home with. I ended up having to wean off of them and take blood pressure meds while I did so. Then I ended up with double ear infections from the steroids and had a bad reaction to the ear drops and now am dealing with anxiety. My PCP have me Zoloft and I had to stop that. I had a serious reaction to that and he wanted me to " let it get into" my system and gave me another med to help me through. I stopped the Zoloft and had a terrible time to following few days and had to take the other medication once. No reaction.
I am currently trying to get through this anxiety thing as naturally and as safe as possible.  I have had friends who have been great and very helpful. Also, my mom and husband. They are my rocks and my mom basically babysat me most of this time. She cared for my kids and prayed with me. My poor husband can't get any time off of work to come and stay with me. He knows how scary this can all be. My routine of teas and supplements have been great.
As I am able to, I get the kids out and we do things. Home Depot, Lowes and all that sort of thing. They have been great and understanding. Poor Maggie knows what it is to have anxiety, and she has not had an attack in probably a year. I am so grateful. Jimmy has a three day weekend and is here making sure I am okay and that things are getting done. I am working on laundry and my desk. He took Dexter to Mass yesterday and us smoking a brisket today. I know he had wanted to work today, but it is nice to have this Union guy home on a Union holiday.
Hezekiah and Joaquin went to see Dr. Aaen and it went well. Hezekiah was taken off his seizure meds and Joaquin is on the same dose. He ordered different therapies for them, so thankful for that. I am having a terrible time with heat, so Jimmy switched his days off so he could drive us.
Hezekiah got fitted with glasses after his eye appointment. He picked out some cool frames and he should have them soon.
Maggie has improved her reading so much, she reads description on the Roku for Mythbusters like a champ. That is the kids new favorite show, and soon they want to start watching How it's made. I just love how much they have been learning lately, and how much they still want to learn. Life is good.

Momma

Just Stuff

Happy Easter everyone!
It has been a pretty full weekend for us. Saturday I took the kids to Oceanside to celebrate one of their cousins birthdays. They played pretty hard all day and slept coming home. We then had a buffet dinner and then came home for the evening. We woke up early and all went to Easter Mass at Our Lady of the Valley. The kids have never been to Easter Mass and were surprised by the sprinkling of the Holy Water.
After Mass we went to Denny's for a cheap breakfast and I ended up with nachos. No gluten for me. I really wanted Moons of My Hammy or a stack of pancakes. I held strong a cried inside. The kids had a nice time and overall enjoyed the morning. We headed to my dads and the kids swam most of the afternoon.
Tanni Rainbow is four months now and thinks just because she can roll around, it's okay to try and scoot.
I really can not imagine my life without anyone of my children. They are all so unique and yet so much alike. I often laugh at my teenage self swearing off marriage and children. I felt I was so above that. My life was planned for the solitude of cat ladydom and typing on old typewriters, of course after I retired from the Marines.  I needed a way to support my book habit....but, that didn't happen.
I was talking with a lady recently about her son going to look at colleges. She reminded me soon that could be me. My stars! The oldest is 21, she lives close to her mamas and has two kids. I didn't think I had to think about another one growing up so soon. In reality Dexter is 13. When did I become the momma to a 13 year old boy? Oh, that's right in November. He is quite the kid, sometimes I have to laugh at the things he says. Sometimes, I have to tell him while respect his opinions I am his momma. He taller than me and is nearly in a size 13 shoe!
Joaquin is 10, and while he is still very young for his age I know he will soon be a teenager. When we have "conversations" he just laughs or walks away. He either is in the mood to know things or really doesn't want to know. He is doing so much better with his potty issues. It's not a miracle type of situation, however it is noticeable. He is also making friends, at his own pace.
Waylon, this kid is something else. He loves Cub Scouts and says he wants to be Eagle by 13. He loves to pray and is learning to voice his frustrations so we can help him. He thinks it's cool that I am his Den Leader and he loves when baby Tanni comes to things.
Hezzie, he is still in recovery mode from his surgery. He has developed a stutter, yet is talking more. He loves to give people things including kisses and hugs.
Maggie is loving Girl Scouts. She has a few collections of toys. She wishes she could be a Cub Scout and loves animals still. She loves to lead adventures and make videos. She is coming more into herself. She has a friend at Girl Scouts who she says is like her. A friend who is emotional and kind.

Jimmy is still in his recovery process, and finding his way back to his faith. He thought going back to the Catholic Church would be a struggle for us and that I would revolt. I have not and now I am more at peace with my spiritual self. The youngest three will be getting baptized soon!  Life is exciting and ecverchanging.

Happy Easter

We Are Alive

We are having just as much fun as ever. We've been doing a lot of cooking together lately and the kids have been exploring the backyard. They love finding bugs and making habitats in jars.

We have been working on clearing rock from a section of the front yard, and plan on putting in pavers. My dad suggested it because of my cousin, and because at night I have tripped. Yeah, I am great for falling.

I am hoping to have a small prayer area set up by summers end. I love praying outside.

Maggie has some appointments to schedule as does Hezzie.  Life is...a journey.

Full Lives

We are leading full lives. Nothing we can not handle.
Joaquin has an MRI on Tuesday. It's been awhile.
Dexter has been studying for the CHSEE. Yes, I know he in only 13. He just rocks like that.
Jimmys work may strike, right now the contact is extended.

Sometimes I need to breathe, so I lay down and nurse the baby while we listen to some NPR Podcast or Catholic Stuff You Should Know. Lost of podcasts get played at home, and an NPR station in the van.

I am shamelessly still trying to get my room clean.

Untitled

Waylon got a haircut today. He was mostly asleep through it and cried. Poor kids was confused and now he is happy.
Tanni is so long. This girl need to slow down.

That is all

Momma not Mutha

Sometimes I look at this spectacle of a life I have and have to laugh. If I don't I would be one depressed mutha. You read that. I have a lot of private messages, texts and emails from people. Most I have never met who tell me, they feel like they know me because I am so open with my life. I really have nothing to hide, except the state of my bedroom. I need a dresser. Well, besides that I really don't feel the need to hide anything. For years I hid Jimmys alcoholism and what did that get me? Let's see. Oh, I got accused of making it up, I was alos blamed for it. You know being married to a lazy housewife with lots kids will do that to a man. Anyhow, nothing to hide. Nothing is embarrassing to me except when my friend Angie goes on Facebook and brings up a crush I had in high school. But, that's fun embarrassing.

We do seems to have rounds  of chaos here. Or what could seem like chaos to others and usually is to Jimmy. Right now Hezzie is back at Loma Linda Childrens Hospital. He is waiting to get his surgery site tapped again. There is a possibility of another surgery. I really hope not, I am praying this won't happen. In the meantime, Maggie has TONS of Girl Scout Cookies to sell, Waylon gets his first Cub Scout awards on Thursday. Joaquin has an MRI coming up and Dexter has youth camp coming up. I hope I can make the latter part happen.

Now, I will say thank you for all the love and prayers...keep them coming.

A Full Week

This week as been full. Except one day when the blues tried to take over, it was pretty awesome. Monday the littles and I hit a United Way community program. They made cards for kids at Loma Linda Childrens Hospital. That was pretty special to us. That is where Hezzie had his surgery. The kids really wanted to play at the museum, we caught a little time between the pancake breakfast and the actual card making to do so.

Waylon made it back to Cub Scouts this week. He slid right back in, no problem. I resumed my role as Pack Photographer/Social Media Person. He will be getting some type of awards next week. He is very excited and I will be there with my Nikon to take pictures of all the boys. It's going to be special since he has missed previous awards ceremonies thanks to an eventful pregnancy. His pack had a pancake breakfast today. I took pictures and Jimmy manned the kitchen for awhile. It's weirs seeing him become involved. He is a trained cook so, maybe I should not be that surprised.

Once we came home, we had a bit of a break and then off to pick up Girl Scout Cookies for Maggie. She is a Brownie and has a new troop. The girl love Girl Scouts so much, she will go where there are open arms. I am very proud of her for that. Actually, honored that she is my daughter. Life has thrown her a few loops and she carries on. Like all humans, she has her moments.

Today is the second day of rain. I love the smell and feeling of rain. Meanwhile, my joints say, "Listen lady! Don't go crazy and walk all over. You WILL pay." Rain is bittersweet for me. I love to walk in it, reminds me of my younger days in North Carolina. Back when I was 18 and had the whole world in my hand. Exploring parts of unknown area while on liberty. Meeting new and interesting people. This is when I met my now husband and broke out of my shell. This is why I love the rain, it's a reminder of who I was, who I am and who I will become.

I hope you found some joy this week and remember who you are, underneath it all.

5 Weeks

It's been a pretty good five weeks. Whole I don't feel sleep deprived, I do feel tired. Nothing unmanageable. Tanni is growing pretty good and makes us all smile. I had to put saline spray in her stuff nose this morning. She didn't like it at first but, now she's happy.

You know, when your kids are infants you have all kinds of plans for them. Greatness and happiness. Over the years I've learned that both greatness and happiness comes in different forms. It's displayed differently and it's appreciated on levels I would never have dreamed of.

I do wonder though, what will each kid offer the world around them. What will their happiness be, what will their greatness be? Only time will tell...

Weekends

This weekend was busy, yet not rushed. I got out a bit with Jimmy. I got wheeled around in the wheelchair. Most of my walking is limited to the house. We did some thrifting and hit Big Lots.
My dad came over yesterday and helped with some things. Then he had lunch with us. It's always nice to see him. His birthday is coming up and I kind of would like to do a dinner for him.
My friend Angie and her mom came over for some baby shower planning.. Talked about games and such, and her moms tasty bean dip.
Today was a bit more thrifting and a Craigslist curb alert. I don't do much on these things except look and get wheeled around. Most of today was chillen at home while Jimmy was doing field day on the house. I was on my left side a lot in bed. I was on my feet a lot yesterday. I never knew how such little strict bed rest changed you physically.
I'm enjoying the new house oh so much. Life is good and I am blessed so much more than I've ever imagined.

Obstacles

Untitled

Today was in no way as productive as yesterday. However the living room is clean. Hezzie has speech, his dad took him since he missed work today. I watched videos on river dolphins with Maggie and read some books with a couple of the kids. Hezzie is loving this dragon book we got from the library. The pictures have texture, I like that in a book as well.

I was texted by someone I had attended meetings with and she upset me greatly. She said some unkind words to me, that had me wondering how long...long time drunks stay selfish or if AA brainwashes people. Apparently, working on yourself to this women means she can not see past her Big Book and into real life.

Our plumbing has gone crazy. We have to wait until morning for someone to come out and see what is going wrong with it. The joys, this sent Jimmy over the edge and every flaw in my character was attacked. I think he needs stress management. I know I am not the best at anything I do, and maybe one day something I do will be great....it's just not now. I hate when bumps in the road cause so much damage.

Joaquin has been asking for sushi and keeps reading the Yoko book I mentioned yesterday. The little girl in it has sushi. He started a book on asteroids today.

Hope tomorrow is much better.

Momma

Comedic Life or Something Like That

I have been a bad blogger I know, probably a bad wife and mother as well. This week my energy level dipped to an all time low. There were a few days marked with contractions and some discomfort...go being pregnant at 36! One day this week I had to venture to Walmart and I ran into two people from Jimmy's rehab. I knew what was coming, he has been working a lot and not attending meetings. Therefore people assume he is out there getting drunk, NOPE!

I am standing there, all hot and sweaty holding some Poise Pads. They come up and just stand there. Part of me wanted to throw the bag of pads and pretend I didn't see them, part of me wanted to ask for a recommendation. "Poise or Depends?" They small talk me and asked how Jimmy was doing. I said he was over by the pool supply and he was doing good. They smiled and I threw the bag of pads into my basket along side some shampoo and Toms toothpaste. They looked confused. Come on people! I have five kids, a undependable bladder was bound to happen. Oh, wait! These were two childless adults. Send me your poise pad coupons! I'd love them.

I have been practicing my photo skills a lot. Like every day, a lot! There have been several great photos that have been bombed by nose picking. Oh, wait! My tag line is "Capturing real life." So in real life my three year old is a nose picker and he is not ashamed. Yes folks he is all boy. Speaking of photo taking, I am looking into getting more educated on it. I am not charging since I am in no way a professional. Some people have offered and I will just say 'Hey if you want to give me gas money or buy me an AmPm Lemonade with crunchy ice, I will not say no." Other than that, I will not pretend to be well learned on taking photos. Although, some of them I am very in love with.

This is life and I can not say I'd want to change it, okay maybe not dealing with buying poise pads. Love your life people.

Love,
Momma!

It's Not All Morning Sickness

Untitled

Granted I have been pretty sick, even right before these pictures this morning. If you have ever suffered such a thing, you like me may wonder why we don't come out of pregnancy with tight abs. I feel like I look full term, of course I had extra weight to start. The extra weight was no big deal until now. I will be grateful when the so called "morning sickness" passes. For me it has been more like, "sick all day long".

Untitled

My kids are such characters. Just looks at those faces, don't you want to hug the heck out of them? I know I do most days. Some days....well, some days I need a time out. Watching them become their own person is mostly a joy. Then there are moments when I think "Where did that child spawn from?" Then I realize, with great dismay/excitement they are my children. The oldest keeps talking about 4Chan. He can go on four h..o..u..r..s.... He says "I'm not an internet troll, I am a LOLZ Cat. I am eats your cake." My child!

Untitled

I have been able to use a few things from the lil homestead for cooking. So far it has been rosemary and eggs. Look at those yokes. Dinner was scrummy tonight. I am looking forward to some amazing tomatoes and such to come in. We still have beds to build and hopefully this will be the year our garden goes year round. After a few years of research I am pretty sure I know what to plant in our zone.

Untitled

Here are some pictures from some after dinner shenanigans. Kids love playing in the mud. It was fun to watch. What kid does not like some messy play? I fed the hens their dinner and watered the garden. I have started drying out flowers from the yard for what I hope become Christmas gifts. I would love them all to be homemade this year. We shall see since the baby is due a couple weeks beforehand.
Right now I am happy living life as best as I can.

Been Busy

Untitl<a href=

Been busy living life with my kids. Last weekend we went to the Art Hop in Banning. We had a good time and look forward to next year. It was great, the big boys went off on their own for a bit while me and the little did little kid things. It was pretty great. After that we went to Free Comic Book Day at our local store. THAT WAS REALLY GREAT! The owners and staff are super nice.

Untitled

Monday we visited our local Lego shop called Bricks and Figs! Those owners are super nice. They are really chatty and helpful. The kids played and we got some keychains, plus Toy Story minifigs! That place is awesome. I look forward to their summer programs.

Untitled

Yesterday Hezzie saw his neurologist, Dr. Aaen. He is pretty amazing and on it. He was glad to hear that the seizures have stopped since the meds. He confirmed his Autism and ordered some therapies. I know some unschoolers don't believe in diagnosis or therapies but, I know my child is frustrated and speech has been helpful. Anyhow, that's my thing.

Life has been busy, great, crazy and most of all it's been lived. Now if the meanies will leave me and the nausea, life would be AMAZING! Got to love pregnancy.

Momma

Enjoying Life

Untitled

We have been so so busy. The weekend was actually really good. We took the kids to First Peoples Day. It is an annual event put on by The Human Relations Council. We have gone every year they have had it. We got to see wool being spun into yard, iron being forged, clay pots being made and Native dancers. Also, we ate some delicious hot dogs.
Saturday night I went to a Night of Art. I had an amazing time. I wanted to take Maggie but, her internal schedule did not call for it. Hopefully, like Joaquin we can make it more flexible.

Untitled

Sunday was a birthday party with pizza for my friends child. I always laugh that these pizza places have party rooms, with beer banners. Even when my husband was an alcoholic is confused me. But, such is life.

Untitled

You know, life has been treating me good. Suprised by pregnancy, I thought the pilot was out in the oven, doing a lot of art and loving my kids with a passion. Loving and adjusting to my husbands medication. Why do I say his medication? He is not himself on it. Something he plans on talking with his psychiatrist about. I am thankful for that.

Untitled

How can I complain when there is this in my backyard everyday?

Coining Out and A New Beginning

Jimmy's Board

Today, Jimmy "coined out" of his treatment. Most of the time people complete the steps for this before they leave, better insurance I suppose. However, Jimmy made his coining his last day. When I walked into that big room full of familiar and unfamiliar faces I was struck with emotion. Then I looked to the board to see what these people had written about him. To be honest I was a bit taken back. "Who is this guy?" I thought to myself. Don't get me wrong, I know in my heart he is an amazing person...the recent past has proven otherwise.
Each person spoke and most who really took the time to speak to him at some point had remarkable things to speak about him. My heart was sad that I have yet to meet that person but, it was also glad that that person is coming out.
When it got to me, I had to have the counselor, Lisa read my letter. My emotions were already shaken and tearfully nobody would have understood a word of it. This was my letter to him.

"Dearest Jimmy,

Its kind of hard to convey everything we've been through into a short amount of time. We met on a fall day in 1994. We were both young and full of promising lives. Our paths crossed that day on the back of that five ton truck and have never been the same.
I could say it hasn't been a joy but, I'd be lying...mostly. There are been great times and some seriously trying times. I know when we married I was choosing to marry an alcoholic. I was choosing a life I had tried to avoid but, my heart won over my intellect.
We were young and the worries of the world ahead were unknown.
Since we've been together we've given birth to five amazing kids and have lost six angels. Most of our kids are challenged and I know this weighs heavy on your heart. But, I do believe god gave them to us because, he knows our hearts. He knows you care deeply and when you are right in your mind you're a blessing to our children. It takes a great deal of strength to raise children with Autism, epilepsy, Aspergers, bi-polar disorder and then waiting years before some can ever utter a simple "I love you". But, they do. Their love can be seen on there eyes as they race at the sound of the gate to get the first embrace.
The past year was the most trying. There was a loveless desert between us. I know it was hard on you to see me pull away so much at the end. I had to save myself so as to let you go and discover what you needed to do to be whole in your own life. It was a hard and heartbreaking act for me to do. For me to have to behave so selfishly broke me.
I know we've got a great amount of healing ahead of us and a good amount behind us.
. But, I'm here today as your wife and friend to support and love you. I'm here to try and get past all the lies and broken promises if the past as we walk together into the future. Right now I see the man I had the honor of having a glimpse at back in 1994 before the drunken days and nights began.

10 Things I Gave Up Being Married to an Alcoholic Part 3/3

This will actually be 3/4. Number 10 is a big one and may be long. I will be working on it for tomorrow.

7. Community Involvement

Since I was old enough to volunteer and be out in the community I was. I would volunteer and be in community groups. It was honestly out of my comfort zone and even as an adult I would be awkward and out of place....nonetheless I would do it. I was in the recent past involved in a community garden and two other community groups. All except the community garden only took me out of the home once or twice a month. I'd get random comments like "I guess I will stay home with the kids." He knew good and well the kids and him were welcomed to be involved in this programs. I even took Maggie to a couple of the groups meetings. She was a hit. But, over time little comments and faces got to me, I gave in and gave these wonderful things up.
I am planning on rejoining these groups and being involved as much as I can, and hopefully bringing my family a long. Again, these walls house me but, don't make me.

8.Driving Long Distances

This one is a doozy. When I was younger and first had my license I would drive all over the place. I remember being in Kansas and even getting lost on a highway once, quite the treat. When I moved to North Carolina I drove quite a bit as well. In fact I was a driver in the Marines and got to navigate 5 tons on two lane highways in the rain. When we moved to Texas I would drive to the lake when I was pregnant with Dexter by myself just to get away. I would lay and sun soak my growing belly. Life was amazing, I was free.
Little suggestions about driving too far away was dangerous for me, or pointing out that I get tired when I drive...I stopped driving anywhere over an hour away, I tend to get anxiety now. But, no more....adventures await me and I am looking forward to them.

9. Travel

This goes a long with the last one. But, we'd suddenly not have the money for that special trip to Pennsylvania I have planned every year for about 10 years. But, we'd have beer, cigarettes and dip. Such a pain and all I say is...I am packing my bags and ready to go and see the world..or the country.

10 Things I Gave Up Being Married to an Alcoholic Part 2/3

4. Being a daughter.
When we first ventured to California to live. We lived with my mom and so we spent a great deal of time with her. Every Saturday, I would take my dad lunch at the church he did landscaping at. When we moved over the hill, I would see my mom during the day often because, she works locally. I would still take my dad lunch and even visit him. As the drinking got worse money became tight. Visits even in town were down tremendously. It seems the worse his drinking was, the less either parent would visit...and yet, neither one knew. I would confide in him how hurt I was efforts on their parts were not being made...time and time again he'd urge me to "just let go"...it's obvious that a certain parent did not care for me much. So, tearfully I have done so time and time again.
I am going to be reaching my hand out again, one parent in particular and I have a strained relationship. Once I told my husband being married to him was like being married to that particular parent. Every time I'd think everything was good....something bad was pointed out. The other parent, well works quite a bit and randomly calls and stops by. So, I am going to do the same.

2. Being A Sister
This is a tough one. I was never entirely close to any of my siblings except my oldest brother who is five years my junior. Over the years I have tried to offer support and encouragement for their situations. Offered my ear when they have needed it. Again I would confide in my husband how I felt they were embarrassed of me...again he encouraged me to cut the ties with said siblings I know mist of them think he is an ass or stuck up. But, like my parents none of them knew just how bad his drinking was.
I am going to try and be a better sister. I am going to put myself out there again, knowing it could end up the same. But, like isn't about taking the easy road...well, not for me.

3.Being a friend.
I always thought I was such a horrible friend. I mean at the rate that they pull away from me...I would have to be. Basically, it comes down to this. No longer will I stay just in the walls of my home. There is no reason for me to be made to feel guilty for having that time away. There is no reason on this earth that I should not be able to be the loving, caring friend I once was. Obviously though if I feel you have used or decieved me in some way, I will say something. Real friends should be able to be honest with each other and learn to see, not all of friendship is puppy dogs and ice cream. Real friendship can be ugly at times, and if shit gets heavy....a real friendship should be strong enough to tread through it back to the ice cream and sunshine. Real friendship isn't a one way street, it's arms extending both ways...I will not have that taken away from me.

Ten Things I Want To Teach My Children...

Kids at the Tree Farm

I will admit this idea was snagged for Kit over at Blogging Dangerously

  1. While money is nice to have to pay bills and get what you want, it won't fix your problems.
  2. Never give up your passions in life because, someone else wants you to or you think you're too old for them.
  3. For everything there is a season and when you think it can't get any worse, a new season comes...look forward to that.
  4. If someone is trying to pick on your ....kill with kindness. It always makes them crazy.
  5. Never back down when you believe in what you are doing.
  6. Take time to dance and be silly. Get those endorphins going.
  7. When you can not be near your family, make one. Sometimes friends are better than your real family ('cept yo momma)
  8. You can chose to be happy or you can chose to be miserable....make the choice wisely.
  9. Lead by example, follow those who are an example.
  10. In the words of Daniel Johnston "True love will find you in the end..."

Love Always,
Yo' Momma
