Life of Play

From early morning this little on loves to play. I watch her, often from a distance. Her little hand explores textures and shapes. As the sun breaks through the spring fog she likes to press her little nose against a cold spring window. She looks out at cars passing by while she holds a plastic dinosaur in her hand. She growls and chases one of the foster kittens, the puppy follows her closely.
She sits on one of the outward facing bookcases and stares intently at brightly adorned pages full of fire trucks and animals. She points and laughs.
She crawls upon my lap and nurses upon my breasts. Her blue eyes gaze into my brown ones. Her tiny hands wrap around my finger. She sleeps, I sleep.

The sun has set and by this time numerous colorful cloth diapers have been changed. She is on the rug playing with Legos. She's happy and talking to the blocks.
She's happy in her life of play.

Sensory Sunday

My kids, even the big ones love some good sensory play. Here is this weeks theme...rice. We are going to use and play the heck out of two pounds of rice.
I dyed the rice with gel food coloring and rubbing alcohol. I put it in a little round tub with spoons and a measuring cup. Hezzie went to town. Maggie loved it and so did Tanni. Hezzie even sat naked in it. I set it up a little different today.

DSC_0471

There are times when everything seems just so perfect. When the screams die down and the anxiety of a little girl passes...this was one of those times. We had the couch bed pulled out for the littles, made all soft and comfy with thrift shop comforters and the felt sandwich kit came out. Hezekiah loves any kind of "toy" food. It's something he can "play" with that is like real life, not something he has to mimic from someone else.

Maggie and him played for quite some time making amazing sandwiches, laughing and smiling. The other boys were in the back room watching TV. I could her some laughter and occasionally the loudness of Waylons excited voice. It was a peaceful night with some music in the air and for once a clean livingroom before bedtime. A moment in time I was glad to share with my amazing kids.

I hope you get some calm after a storm....
